Decoding the Future: Maruti Suzuki eVX Set to Roll Out in early 2025, Priced at ₹20 – 25 Lakhs*
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to unveil its inaugural electric vehicle, the eVX, in the Indian market sometime next year. The eVX will also have a Toyota variant scheduled for release at a later date. Both iterations are not only slated for production in India but also for exportation abroad. Maruti officials have now confirmed its launch by FY2025, aligning with our previous report anticipating its debut around October 2024. The Maruti eVX is anticipated to offer two battery options and an impressive range of about 550 kilometers. It is poised to be available for purchase both domestically in India and in overseas markets.
Our inaugural electric vehicle, an SUV, is scheduled for launch in the upcoming financial year (FY2024-2025),” stated Rahul Bharti, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki. Currently, the SMG facility at Hansalpur comprises three plants – A, B, and C. In preparation for EV manufacturing, a new production line will be incorporated.
He elaborated, stating, “Our concept electric vehicle has already been showcased. It will be a top-tier SUV boasting a 550km range and equipped with a 60kWh battery,” mentioning that a specific production quantity from the plant has not yet been determined.
The forthcoming eVX and its counterpart from Toyota will be constructed at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s (SMG) Hansalpur facility, situated 90km away from Ahmedabad. SMG stands as a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki India. This plant commenced operations in 2017 and recently celebrated the production of its three millionth vehicle. Maruti currently assembles models such as the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Fronx at this location, which boasts a production capacity exceeding 750,000 units annually.
In its production iteration, the eVX EV SUV is estimated to measure approximately 4.3 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. At the front, it showcases a flat bonnet, a vertical nose flanked by sizable headlamps – although they appear provisional – and a substantial closed-off grille. The rear door handle appears to be positioned on the C-pillar. Overall, the eVX presents a broad stance with muscular shoulder lines, particularly evident behind the rear doors, seamlessly merging with the tailgate akin to the concept version. Anticipated features include a connected LED tail light arrangement, accompanied by a roofline that elegantly tapers towards the rear, evoking a coupe-SUV aesthetic.
The interior of the eVX has been recently spotted, revealing a striking design. The dashboard stands tall and incorporates a dual-screen setup reminiscent of the Mahindra XUV700. Positioned vertically, the AC vents add a sleek touch, while a floating center console houses a rotary dial, optimizing storage space. A horizontal array of physical buttons and knobs takes center stage. Notably, the steering wheel boasts a unique two-spoke design. Interestingly, the SUV appears to diverge from Maruti’s typical design cues, with components such as the power window switches and adjustable seat buttons resembling those from Toyota’s inventory. Additional features include a 360-degree camera, a frameless rearview mirror, and the inclusion of ADAS technology.
